What to expect
The jungle reveals its secrets to us, whenever we have questions. This experience along the triple border from Leticia takes us to discover the Parrot Park, Amazonian fruits and fish products in its market square.
Then we will sail the Amazon River and interact with indigenous Tikuna communities in Mocagua, enjoying the experience of getting to know a sustainable town in the middle of the jungle: Puerto Nariño and its Ramsar ecosystem such as the Tarapoto Lakes.
We will support foundations that protect the fauna and that also plants native trees to reforests the disturbed secondary forests, and we will venture into the deep jungle, sometimes on foot, other times in canoes along the creeks that flow into the great Amazon River.
We will nourish the body and soul with the flavors of the chagra and the river, making this trip an adventure of knowledge and connection with this wonderful, fragile and powerful ecosystem.
La Ceiba is a hotel in the community of Mocagua run by a family of the Tikuna and Murui ethnic groups that features traditional architecture, comfort and authenticity.
Itinerary
DAY 1: Leticia – Tabatinga – Local market – Santander Park
Reception by our specialized guide at the Vasquez Cobo airport in the city of Leticia and transfer to the selected hotel in Leticia and installation.
Visit to the local market where you can have the experience of learning about jungle products such as fruits, cassava and varieties of fish. (The tour is available for arrivals before noon.)
Tour of Tabatinga by local transportation (taxi or tuk tuk). Where you can make stops at various points of interest, appreciating its culture and infrastructure. Visit its market square and some shops that will allow you to learn about the Colombian-Brazilian culture. Lunch.
On the way back, at dusk, start the walking tour of the city of Leticia through the Santander Park, where you can appreciate the hustle and bustle of parrots and, in some seasons, swallows that have their dormitory in this urban park. Enjoy an ice cream made with Amazonian fruits.
Dinner and accommodation.
DAY 2: Leticia – Mocagua – Maikuchiga Foundation – Craft
workshop with community – Night walk Breakfast. Transfer to the pier to take the shared boat to Mocagua, the overlapping area of the
Amacayacu National Natural Park, along the Amazon River in a journey of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Arrival and check-in at the Ecohotel La Ceiba, a community-based enterprise. Departure to the tour around the community of Mocagua (Ticuna ethnic group) and its painted houses.
Visit to the Maikuchiga Foundation, where a monitoring program for the Mico Churuco and the conservation and protection of primates is being developed. With this visit we will support this work and we will also be able to learn how primates are essential to biodiversity.
Enjoy a community Amazonian lunch.
In the afternoon, there will be a craft workshop with the community (fabrics made from chambira or plant leaves).
At the according time return to La Ceiba. Night walk to observe some of the inhabitants of the jungle.
Dinner and accommodation.
DAY 3: Mocagua – Cacao Island – Puerto Nariño – Tarapoto Lakes
Breakfast. Departure to Cacao Island located in Peru, in front of Puerto Nariño, approximately 2 kilometers in a straight line crossing the Amazon River.
Cacao Island has internal lakes where you can see the largest aquatic plant in the world, “Victoria Regia”, and where you can observe birds and sloths.
Continue to Puerto Nariño by private native boat.
Arrival and lunch. Tour of the village where you can see sculptures of the Amazonian fauna and ascend to the viewpoint from where you can see the Amazon River, the Loretoyacu River, the lakes and the
rainforest. Then, departure towards the Tarapoto Lakes, a Ramsar ecosystem where you will have the chance to observe pink and grey dolphins (in low waters the dolphins will be observed at the
mouth of the river).
Return to La Ceiba. Dinner and accommodation.
DAY 4: Mocagua – Leticia – Vásquez Cobo Airport
Breakfast. At the indicated time, departure by shared boat to the city of Leticia.
According to the flight schedule (it is imperative that passengers have their return flight from 11:30 am so that they can board the shared boat. If passengers return earlier, will charge an
additional fee to hire a private boat service) transfer to the airport or activities in Leticia arecarried out.
Depending on opening hours and program itinerary, it is recommended to visit the ethnographic museum of Leticia at no additional cost or visit Tabatinga in Brazil for an additional fee.
End of the experience, beginning of memories.

- Extra luggage carriers: If you carry more luggage than allowed, you will have to pay an additional fee of $30,000 pesos for the boat and $30,000 pesos for carrying the luggage to the dock on Fantasy Island.
- It should be noted that in summer (late July to late November) the river dries up and passengers must be transported in a wooden boat to the raft where the rapids come out. For this reason, a luggage charge of $80,000 per person is charged.
