What to expect
On this journey through the Guainía, water becomes a path, a memory, and a guide. During the rainy season, the jungle is transformed: rivers swell, streams converge, and the forest reveals landscapes that can only be experienced at this time of year.
From arrival in Inírida to the community of La Ceiba, the Cerros de Mavicure, the Atabapo
River, and the Kuwai Mericure Ecolodge, this journey invites you to contemplate the power
of the land, learn about community initiatives, navigate through living waters, and connect
with the wisdom of the indigenous peoples who inhabit and care for this region.
An experience of nature, living culture, and well-being for travelers seeking an authentic
connection with the northern Colombian Amazon, its rivers, its communities, and its
ancestral memory. This five-day program combines navigation, indigenous culture, and
well-being during the rainy season, from May to November.
DAY 1 – INÍRIDA, LA CEIBA COMMUNITY, HONEY TRAIL, AND ARRIVAL IN MAVICURE
Meet and greet at the Inírida airport.
Upon arrival, our local team will welcome the group and provide ground transportation to the
dock.
From there, we’ll set off on a private boat trip down the Inírida River, our first major encounter with the Guainía river landscape. The river will be the central thread of this experience, opening the way to communities, jungle, savannas, and ancient rock formations.
The first stop will be in the community of La Ceiba, where we will learn about sustainable production initiatives such as the Honey Route and local artisanal work. This visit offers insight into how communities strengthen their own economies while caring for the land.
After lunch, we will continue our journey toward the Cerros de Mavicure, sacred rock formations that rise from the jungle like guardians of time. In the late afternoon, we will enjoy the scenery, the rock formations, and the energy of the land in the Venado rapids area.
Accommodation: community lodging in the Mavicure/Venado area.
Meals: lunch and dinner.
Services for the day: airport pickup, transfer to the pier, private boat tour, local guide, community visit, community contributions, meals, and travel insurance.
DAY 2 – HIKE UP MAVICURE HILL, THE SOUTHERN RIVER STAR, AND ARRIVAL AT KUWAI MERICURE
Very early in the morning, we will begin our ascent of Cerro de Mavicure, accompanied by local guides and stories of the region. The hike connects us with the power of the rocks, the silence of the jungle, and the vastness of the landscape. From the summit, the view opens up to the rivers, the vegetation, and the landforms of the Guiana Shield.
After the descent and lunch, we will continue our journey toward the Estrella Fluvial del Sur, where the Orinoco, Guaviare, and Atabapo rivers converge. This confluence is one of the most significant sites in the northern Amazon due to its beauty, its hydrological importance, and its ancestral heritage.
Later, we will proceed to the Kuwai Mericure Ecolodge, located on the banks of the Atabapo River, a place of rest, silence, and harmony with nature.
Accommodation: Kuwai Mericure Ecolodge.
Meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Daily services: guided hike to Cerro de Mavicure, river cruise, visit to the Southern River Star, local guide, meals, water, community contributions, and travel insurance.
DAY 3 – LIVING CULTURE, ETHNOECOLOGICAL HIKE, RED-COLORED STREAMS, AND DOLPHINS
After breakfast, we’ll embark on an experience of living culture and spiritual connection with nature. The day combines gentle hikes and canoe trips, depending on water and weather conditions.
We will explore crystal-clear streams with reddish hues, white sand savannas, and landscapes inhabited by birds, carnivorous plants, and species native to the region. During the tour, the local guide will share insights into the communities’ relationship with the forest, water, and natural cycles.
We will also go out on the water to observe wildlife and, if river conditions permit, respectfully search for river dolphins.
The afternoon will be spent relaxing at the Kuwai Mericure Ecolodge, with time to enjoy the hammocks, the Atabapo River, and the leisurely pace of the region.
Accommodation: Kuwai Mericure Ecolodge.
Meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Services for the day: ethno-ecological hike, canoe tour or local boat ride depending on
conditions, local guide, meals, water, and travel insurance.
DAY 4 – PIEDRA YAVI, SACRED FOREST AND FOREST BATHING
The day begins with a trip to Piedra Yavi, a place of forest, memory, and contemplation. We will venture into a tapestry of ecosystems where the land expresses itself through plants, sounds, humidity, roots, and natural trails.
This experience is a leisurely encounter with the jungle, featuring a hike and interpretation of the surroundings, along with a gentle wellness practice inspired by forest bathing or Shinrin Yoku, accompanied by intercultural dialogue and listening to the land.
The purpose of the day is to recognize the jungle as a sacred space—not merely as a landscape, but as a living system with cultural, spiritual, and ecological significance.
At the end of the day, we will return to the Kuwai Mericure Ecolodge to rest by the Atabapo River.
Accommodation: Kuwai Mericure Ecolodge.
Meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Services included: hike to Piedra Yavi, local guide, forest bathing practice, meals, hydration, andtravel insurance.
DAY 5 – CLOSURE AND RENOVATION: RETURN VIA THE GUAINÍA RIVERS
After breakfast, we’ll begin wrapping up our experience at the Kuwai Mericure Ecolodge, on the banks of the Atabapo River. It will be a morning to bid farewell to the river’s silence and the tranquil energy of the land.
Then we will begin our return journey to Inírida, once again traversing the river landscapes that connect the Atabapo, Orinoco, Guaviare, and Inírida rivers. Along the way, the water becomes the thread that ties together everything we have experienced: the hills, the communities, the streams, the flooded jungle, and the ancestral memory of Guainía.
Upon arrival in Inírida, we will transfer to the airport to catch our departure flight.
Accommodation: not applicable.
Meals: breakfast.
Services for the day: return river navigation, airport transfer, local guide, and travel insurance.
End of the experience, beginning of the memories.
