What to expect
If you are looking for a place of nature and conservation, the Nainekü reserve located in the overlapping area of the Amacayacu National Natural Park is perfect for enjoying the jungle with a native family of the Tikuna ethnic group.
At the Nainekü Reserve in San Martín de Amacayacu you can connect with the jungle and its inhabitants by exploring trails on day and night walks, canoeing and artisanal fishing on the Amacayacu River and bird watching at dawn and dusk. Also in the town, you can learn about the ancestral tradition of using medicinal plants, the Chagra and its relationship with crops and natural cycles. Also, learn the art of Tikuna pottery from expert artisans.
In Mocagua, you will discover Amazonian flavors with healthy preparations from the chagra and the river, and in the monkey house, you will support the conservation of primates, especially the churuco monkey.
Visit Puerto Nariño, the first green municipality in Colombia without motor vehicles, visit the Correo and Tarapoto Lakes where you will have the opportunity to observe pink and gray dolphins.
In Peru, visit Cacao Island to learn about the community’s initiative to conserve and protect the sloth, in a place of lakes with plants such as the Victoria Regía and centuries-old trees…
Itinerary
DAY 1: Leticia – Market Square – Nainekü Reserve – Jungle Walk
Reception by our specialized guide at Vasquez Cobo Airport in the city of Leticia. Passengers must arrive before noon to take the shared boat. Transfer to Leticia, lunch at Tierras Amazónicas and departure to the pier, passing through the market square where you can see and taste Amazonian fruits. Departure by shared boat on a 90-minute tour along the Amazon River towards the mouth of the Amacayacu River, where our host will be waiting for us. Then, in a native boat, in private service, continue towards the Nainekü reserve in the overlap zone of the Amacayacu National Natural Park. Accommodation in rooms with private bathroom, snacks and rest. At dusk, walk in the jungle. Dinner and accommodation. Note: For people with lower back problems or those at risk due to age-related conditions or previous surgeries, it is advisable to choose a different itinerary, as the trip to the Nainekü Reserve is made in a rowboat without a backrest.
DAY 2: Nainekü Reserve – San Martín de Amacayacu Community – Canoeing
Bird watching at dawn. Breakfast. Walk along the trail to the community of San Martín de Amacayacu. Arrival in the community of San Martín de Amacayacu, welcome by an elder representing the Moruapow group and talk about the Tikuna ethnic group.
Tour of the traditional Chagra, where the indigenous people will tell us about the medicinal properties of plants and their uses. Workshop on preparing flour and in the Maloca, a craft workshop with the grandparents (ceramics) Lunch. Canoeing on the Amacayacu River. Return to the reserve, dinner and accommodation.
DAY 3: Nainekü Reserve – Mocagua – Maikuchiga Foundation – Day-night fusion hike
After breakfast, morning navigation to Mocagua, visit to the Maikuchiga Foundation to share the experience that this foundation carries out in the protection and rehabilitation of primates that were in captivity, as well as the protection of the jungle through the protection of the Churuco Monkey.
Lunch at a local restaurant run by women from the community. Return to the reserve.
Birdwatching at dusk, day-night fusion (to observe the transition of the jungle between day and night). Dinner and accommodation.
DAY 4: Nainekü Reserve – Cacao Island – Puerto Nariño – Tarapoto Lakes – Leticia &
Santander Park
After breakfast, depart along the Amacayacu River to the Amazon River, visit Cacao Island located in Peru, in front of Puerto Nariño, approximately 2 kilometers in a straight line crossing the Amazon River.
Cacao Island has internal lakes where you can see the largest aquatic plant in the world, “Victoria Regia”, and where you can observe birds and sloths. During the low water season, you will be able to cross traditional crops of cassava, banana, vegetables and some greens such as cucumber, pepper, tomato, and pumpkin before reaching the community.
You can also go on a 2-hour hike to see the giant Oje tree. During the high water season, you can walk along the lakes until you reach the town.
Lunch in Puerto Nariño and tour of the town where you can see sculptures of the Amazonian fauna and climb to the viewpoint from where you can see the Amazon River, the Loretoyacu River, the lakes and the rainforest.
Continue to the Tarapoto Lakes, a tour of the lake where you can see the pink and gray dolphins.
At the agreed time, departure for Leticia. In Leticia, transfer to the Waira Suites hotel.
Visit Santander Park where you can observe and listen to hundreds of parrots that have their dormitory there. Dinner and accommodation.
DAY 5: Leticia – Vásquez Cobo Airport
Breakfast. At the agreed time, transfer to Leticia airport. *Depending on the opening hours and program itinerary, it is recommended to visit the ethnographic museum of Leticia at no additional cost or visit Tabatinga in Brazil for an additional fee.
End of the experience, beginning of memories.

- It should be noted that in summer (late July to late November) the river dries up and passengers must be transported in a wooden boat to the raft where the rapids come out. For this reason, a luggage charge of $80,000 per person is charged.
